A woman employee of the Arulmigu Subramania Swamy Temple in Tiruchendur has been suspended following allegations of financial irregularities involving ₹100 special darshan tickets.
The Tiruchendur temple, one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan, attracts thousands of devotees daily and lakhs during festivals and special occasions. Devotees are allowed darshan through free entry, ₹100 special darshan and senior citizen queues.
The issue came to light after messages circulated widely on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, alleging that fake receipts had been issued for ₹100 special darshan tickets and that large sums of money had been misappropriated.
Following the allegations, the temple administration conducted an internal inquiry against the employee, identified as Menaka.
Preliminary investigations reportedly revealed financial irregularities amounting to several lakhs of rupees. Temple authorities subsequently placed the employee under suspension pending further inquiry.
Sources said the amount allegedly collected through the fraudulent practice could be as high as ₹25 lakh. The incident has created concern among devotees and sparked discussion in Tiruchendur.
