A woman staying in a private women’s hostel in Coimbatore was brutally hacked to death early this morning, triggering shock and tension in the area.
Balamurugan and Sripriya, a couple from Tirunelveli district, had been married for several years and were parents to two children. Due to ongoing marital disputes, Sripriya separated from her husband and moved to Coimbatore, where she stayed at the Thaliyar Women’s Hostel and worked in a private company.
Police sources said Sripriya had reportedly developed a relationship with her cousin, Isakkaraja. It is alleged that Isakkaraja sent a photograph of the two to Balamurugan, which enraged him.
In a fit of anger, Balamurugan travelled to Coimbatore last night. Early this morning, he waited outside the hostel where Sripriya was staying. When she stepped out, he allegedly attacked her with a machete. Sripriya sustained deep injuries and died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.
Police rushed to the scene on receiving information, recovered Sripriya’s body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Balamurugan was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently undergoing intensive interrogation.
