A woman from Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district has won widespread appreciation for her honesty after promptly reporting and returning nearly Rs 10 crore that was mistakenly credited to her bank account.
Rita, a resident of Devganj village, lives with her husband, a farmer.
The incident came to light when her husband visited an ATM recently to check their account balance and found an unexpected amount of Rs 9,99,49,588 credited.
Surprised by the unusually large sum, he verified the balance at another ATM, which displayed the same amount. Unable to contact bank officials immediately due to a holiday, the family waited and later informed the bank about the
discrepancy.
Bank authorities reportedly told them that the amount had been credited due to a technical error and assured that it would be rectified.
Rita’s decision to report the error despite her modest background has drawn praise from villagers and social media users, highlighting her integrity and sense of responsibility.
