The Department of Food Science and Nutrition, School of Home Science, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, organised the Twenty Fourth Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas Annual Oration Award ceremony along with World Health Day celebrations on April 7, 2026.
The programme was presided over by Dr. T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram, Chancellor, who highlighted the visionary contributions of Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas to the growth of the institution.
The Chancellor conferred the Twenty Fourth Dr. Rajammal P. Devadas Annual Oration Award on Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Secretary, Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), and Director General, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi. Dr. Gowri Ramakrishna, Assistant Managing Trustee, Sri Avinashilingam Education Trust, introduced the awardee and read the citation. Delivering the oration, Dr. N. Kalaiselvi spoke on integrating science, nutrition, and sustainable
development.

She commended the legacy of women empowerment upheld by the family of Ayya Avinashilingam and acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Rajammal Devadas. She emphasised the role of artificial intelligence in nutrition, value addition in millets, and circular economy practices.
She also highlighted the need for innovation in space and sports nutrition, noting the potential for institutions to contribute to advancements in space foods.
Dr. Kalaiselvi encouraged students and researchers to adopt eco-friendly technologies and work towards globally relevant indigenous innovations.
The programme featured the award presentation, the oration lecture, and the release of the announcement for the 58th Annual National Conference of the Nutrition Society of India.
The event served as a platform for knowledge sharing and inspiration, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to women empowerment, research excellence, and sustainable development. Earlier, Registrar Dr. H. Indu delivered the welcome address. Dr. S. Amsamani, Dean, School of Home Science, proposed the vote of thanks.
The event was convened by Dr. P.A. Raajeswari, Professor and Head, Department of Food Science and Nutrition.
