Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay on Thursday claimed that the growing support for his party’s whistle symbol among women had forced the ruling DMK to announce fresh welfare measures.
In a statement, Vijay questioned the sudden announcement of a Rs. 2,000 summer special assistance and the early disbursal of the monthly Women’s Rights entitlement.
“Is summer coming only this year? Why was the amount, usually credited on the 15th, advanced and announced on the 13th?” he asked.
He alleged that the decision was prompted by the “sound of whistles from every street and home,” referring to the backing received from women across the State.
According to him, the ruling party was rattled by the overwhelming response to the whistle symbol. Vijay asserted that his party had emerged as the principal political force capable of defeating the DMK.
He said the recent announcements themselves were proof that the ruling party now viewed his outfit as its main challenger.
Expressing gratitude to the women of Tamil Nadu, Vijay said their support had created political pressure and assured that his party would work with genuine concern for the welfare of the people if voted to power.
