Young woman beats Endometrial Cancer and delivers healthy baby at KMCH

A 28-year-old woman from Kerala, who was diagnosed with endometrial cancer while trying to conceive, has successfully undergone fertility-preserving treatment at Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) and delivered a healthy baby boy on August 22, 2026.
The woman had a history of irregular periods. An ultrasound revealed a significantly thickened endometrial lining, and a subsequent biopsy confirmed cancer of the uterine lining. A hysterectomy was initially recommended, which would have prevented her from carrying a pregnancy.
The couple sought a second opinion at KMCH in May 2024. The hospital’s oncology team adopted a fertility-preserving approach involving hysteroscopic tumour resection and hormonal therapy, followed by regular monitoring.
Repeat biopsies confirmed complete response with no evidence of malignancy in June 2025. After the cancer went into remission, she was referred to the fertility team and conceived through intrauterine insemination (IUI).

Dr. Anbukkani, Gynaec Oncologist at KMCH, said appropriate selection and management of patients with endometrial cancer can help some women preserve fertility and pursue pregnancy.
