A 25-year-old woman from Telangana, suffering from myrmecophobia (an extreme fear of ants), ended her life in a shocking incident that has left locals grief-stricken.
The deceased, identified as Manisha, wife of Srikanth, an IT employee from Manjeri in Sangareddy district, had been undergoing psychiatric treatment for her condition. The couple, married for a few years, have a young daughter.
According to police, Manisha was alone at home yesterday when the incident occurred. After leaving her child with a neighbour, she began cleaning the house and reportedly panicked upon seeing a swarm of ants. Terrified, she decided to take her own life.
Before doing so, Manisha wrote an emotional letter to her husband, saying, “I am sorry Sri… Forgive me. Take good care of our child. Don’t forget to feed your mother-in-law.” She then allegedly hanged herself from a ceiling fan.
Srikanth rushed home after learning of her death and was devastated upon reading the note. Police have recovered the body and sent it to the Government Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The tragic case of a young mother taking her life out of fear of ants has caused deep shock and sorrow in the locality.
