Rs.27 Crore Water Tank Project Inaugurated At Broadway

A 30 lakh litre capacity water storage project built at a cost of Rs 27.50 crore on Davidson Street, Broadway, under the Harbour Assembly constituency, was inaugurated on Friday.
The first phase of the project, comprising a 15 lakh litre underground water tank, was declared open by Municipal Administration Minister K. N. Nehru and Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P. K. Sekar Babu.
Implemented by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the project includes laying of a 400 mm diameter drinking water pipeline for a stretch of 1,141 metres in the first phase, along with commissioning of the 1.5 million litre underground tank.
In the second phase, two overhead water tanks with a combined capacity of 15 lakh litres are being constructed. A 300 mm diameter pipeline is also being laid for a distance of 963 metres. Officials said the remaining works would be completed within the stipulated timeframe and the facility would be fully operational soon. The project is expected to benefit nearly 70,000 residents in Mannadi, Clive Battery and George Town areas.
Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board Managing Director Vinay, Greater Chennai Corporation North Zone Deputy Commissioner Katta Ravi Teja, CMWSSB Engineering Director U. Parveez, Chief Engineer A. Radhakrishnan, Area Engineer M. S. Anand Kumar and Zonal Committee Chairman P. Ramulu were among those present at the inauguration.
