A 29-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife and her associates in Melpallipattu village near Odugathur in Vellore district, with police arresting three persons in connection with the crime.
The deceased, Krishnamurthy, son of Rajendran from Kuppam in Andhra Pradesh, was working as a construction labourer in Bengaluru. He had married Monisha, daughter of Shivaji, eight years ago. The couple has two children aged six and four.
Police said Krishnamurthy had recently returned to his native village, where he was found dead on March 31 night. Initially, Monisha claimed that he died after vomiting blood. However, based on a complaint filed by Krishnamurthy’s father, Veppankuppam police registered a case and conducted an inquiry.
During investigation, Monisha confessed to the murder. Police revealed that she had been in a relationship for the past two years with Anbazhagan, 31, from Dharmapuri district.
According to the police, Krishnamurthy had come to know about the affair three months ago and had been confronting his wife. Frequent quarrels reportedly took place between the couple, with Krishnamurthy allegedly consuming alcohol regularly and engaging in arguments.
On the day of the incident, Monisha allegedly mixed sleeping pills in her husband’s food to make him unconscious. She then informed Anbazhagan, who arrived at the house along with his associate Subramani, 41. The two men reportedly entered the house by scaling the wall and strangled Krishnamurthy to death using a piece of cloth while he was asleep. Monisha is said to have stood outside to keep watch.
Following the murder, the accused fled the scene. Based on the confession and evidence gathered, police arrested Monisha, Anbazhagan, and Subramani. Further investigation is under way.
