Actor-turned-politician Vijay announced the election promises of the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam for the forthcoming Puducherry Assembly elections during a campaign at Thattanchavadi.
Addressing the gathering, Vijay criticised both the Congress-DMK alliance and the NR Congress-BJP alliance, alleging that they had failed to provide effective governance and had misled the people. He urged voters not to be swayed by what he described as “confused alliances”.
Releasing the party’s key promises, Vijay said the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam would take all legal steps to secure full statehood for Puducherry without interference from the Lieutenant Governor. He also assured that local body elections would be held within six months of forming the government. Among the major assurances, he said pregnant women would receive financial assistance of Rs. 25,000 and every family would be covered under a medical insurance scheme worth Rs. 25 lakh.
He also promised to fill all government job vacancies and implement 100 per cent crop insurance.
The party further announced a diesel subsidy of Rs. 20 per litre for fishermen, free electricity up to 200 units for families below the poverty line, and allocation of 25 per cent of development expenditure to Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam regions.
