Tiruvannamalai: Minor girl allegedly gang-raped after attending family function

In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl from Periya Kanchipuram was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by an unidentified group of men while she was attending an auspicious family event in Kalpattu village near Brahmadesam, close to Cheyyar in Tiruvannamalai district.
The victim, a Class 11 student, had travelled with relatives to her grandmother’s house in Kalpattu village to participate in the event. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred on Sunday night when the girl was allegedly abducted from the venue by a gang and taken to a nearby garden, where she was sexually assaulted by multiple persons.
Following the assault, the girl’s condition deteriorated rapidly. She was rushed to the Government Hospital in Kanchipuram, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
Tiruvannamalai District Superintendent of Police Dr. Sudhakar, along with Additional Superintendent of Police Sathishkumar, Brahmadesam police personnel, and forensic experts, visited the scene of the crime on Monday. A team of officers has been camping in the area and has launched an intensive investigation.
Heavy police deployment has been made in Kalpattu village, and the entire area has been brought under strict police control amid rising tension. Police sources suspect the involvement of a gang of about eight persons and are probing whether the perpetrators are linked to ganja addiction or other criminal activities.
The girl is being counselled and her statement is being recorded at the hospital. A thorough probe is underway from multiple angles, and further details are expected once the victim’s full statement and forensic reports are analysed.
Senior police officials said that no arrests have been made so far and the identity of the accused remains unknown. The case has been registered and investigations are continuing
