Private bus operators defer September 30 strike

The Tamil Nadu Private Bus Owners Federation has deferred its one-day token strike scheduled for September 30, following assurances from the Ministers concerned that their demands would be considered.
The federation had announced the strike from midnight on Tuesday to midnight on Wednesday, seeking a revision of private bus fares and extension of the free bus travel scheme for women to private buses along with a subsidy.
The operators had also urged the government to take steps to protect the private bus industry, which provides employment to around three lakh workers.
The decision to defer the strike was taken after Ministers of Revenue and Transport assured representatives of private bus owners that their demands would be examined.
