Tourist destinations across Salem district witnessed a heavy influx of visitors on Saturday as people from Salem, neighbouring districts and other States made use of the three-day weekend holiday.
Yercaud, one of Salem district’s major tourist destinations, witnessed a large crowd from the morning. Tourists arrived in buses, cars, vans and motorcycles and visited popular attractions including Anna Park, Botanical Garden, Natural Environment Park, Deer Park, Gent’s Seat, Lady’s Seat, Pagoda Point and Servarayan Temple.
The heavy influx led to traffic congestion on the Yercaud ghat road. Vehicles were lined up for nearly three kilometres on the ghat road and other connecting roads, causing inconvenience to tourists.

Tourists also enjoyed boating with their families and purchased food items from roadside shops. The cool evening weather added to the enjoyment, while the increased tourist footfall brought brisk business for local traders.
Mettur Dam Park also witnessed a large number of visitors from Salem, Erode and Dharmapuri districts. Tourists took a dip in the Cauvery, visited the Muniappan temple and enjoyed the swings and slides at the park. Families also enjoyed meals together and tasted fried fish sold at local shops.
Kurumbapatti Zoological Park witnessed another large gathering. Visitors enjoyed the natural surroundings and watched monkeys, peacocks, deer and various birds.
Tourists also gathered at Poolampatti Lake, where they enjoyed boating and the scenic surroundings.
