Fourteen-year-old cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar was honoured by President Droupadi Murmu with the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, the country’s highest civilian award for exceptional achievements by children.
Vaibhav hails from Samastipur district in Bihar. His interest in cricket began at the age of four, and recognising his talent early, his father enrolled him in a local cricket academy when he was nine. His steady progress and consistent performances have since drawn widespread attention in cricketing circles.
He is associated with the Rajasthan Royals and has made headlines by becoming the youngest player to score a century, smashing 101 runs off just 38 balls. He also recorded his maiden century in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy, setting a record as the youngest centurion in the tournament.
In recognition of his remarkable achievements at a young age, the Central Government selected him for the prestigious national award. Notably, Vaibhav skipped participation in the Vijay Hazare Trophy match scheduled on the day to receive the honour from the President.
The achievement has brought pride to Bihar and highlighted the emergence of promising young talent in Indian cricket.
