27 Non-Venomous snakes found in water tank

A family in Sarai village near Haridwar in Uttarakhand was left shocked after discovering 27 snakes inside an unused water tank located within their residential premises.
According to reports, the large water tank had remained unused for a long period, resulting in the accumulation of sludge, waste and stagnant water. When family members recently inspected the tank, they were startled to find a large number of snakes inside.
Following the discovery, forest department officials and trained snake rescuers rushed to the spot. The rescue team safely removed all 27 snakes from the tank and placed them in a secure container before relocating them to a suitable habitat.
Speaking about the rescue operation, the snake rescuers said the reptiles were water snakes and were non-venomous. They explained that such snakes are commonly found near ponds, rivers, canals and other water bodies.
The rescuers further noted that the snakes primarily feed on frogs, fish and small insects and generally do not pose a threat to humans.
However, how such a large number of snakes entered the water tank remains a mystery.
The unusual incident has attracted widespread attention, with videos of the rescue operation going viral on social media platforms.
Forest officials have advised residents to regularly inspect unused water storage structures and maintain cleanliness to prevent reptiles and other wildlife from taking shelter in such places.
