Sudhan Appadurai was held at the CSI Christ Church, Trichy road Prayer Hall here rencently, as family members, church leaders, friends and well-wishers gathered to remember a life rooted in faith, service and quiet leadership. The service was marked by prayer, reflection and tributes that highlighted his enduring influence across personal, social and spiritual spheres.
The memorial address was delivered by his first cousin, Rev. Mathansingh, who spoke movingly about Sudhan Appadurai’s life of divine purpose. He described him as a man who made full use of every gift and strength bestowed upon him by God, never allowing limitations to define his contribution. According to the speaker, Sudhan Appadurai consistently rose to the demands of responsibility and stood as a model of integrity and dedication in both public and spiritual life.
Recalling their frequent conversations, Rev. Mathansingh said he was often struck by his cousin’s multi-faceted personality and leadership qualities. He noted that Sudhan Appadurai possessed a rare ability to handle varied roles with calm resolve, whether in family matters, church activities or wider social engagement, always guided by a sense of higher calling.

Dr. David Prakasam, Moderator of the Synod of Pentecostal Churches and President of IPA Churches, recalling Sudhan Appadurai as a man shaped by discipline, integrity and godly purpose, Dr. Prakasam said Mr. Appadurai was an exceptional leader endowed with rare administrative clarity.
His contributions to the field of education, particularly in the management of matriculation schools, were marked by order, vision and fairness.
He firmly believed that administration was not merely about control, but about service, and several institutions prospered under his thoughtful and principled leadership. In the field of journalism, Mr. Appadurai stood out as a man of truth. At a time when compromise often comes easily, he remained unwavering in ethical values, he lauded.

Noble Thamburaj, Vice Chief of Army (retd) said Sudhan Appadurai possessed an infectious sense of humour and a natural gift for storytelling that drew people toward him. His conversations, marked by wit and insight, created instant bonds and left lasting impressions, making him a much-loved presence in family gatherings and social circles.
Recalling his leadership qualities, the retired Army officer said Sudhan Appadurai led not by authority but by example. His ability to connect with people across ages and backgrounds made him a unifying force within the family and the wider community. People trusted him instinctively, he said, because his words were always backed by genuine concern and action.

Sharing a personal bond that spanned decades despite a 40-year age gap, Rev. Praveen Jebaraj, Presbyter of the CSI Coimbatore Diocese said Sudhan Ayya related to him not as a superior but as a friend.
He remembered his encouraging nature, marked by gentle gestures such as a reassuring tap on the shoulder and words of motivation that stayed long after the conversation ended. Even while holding senior positions, including that of Correspondent of a CSI engineering college, his warmth and approachability never diminished.
The speaker noted that Sudhan Ayya’s leadership style stood in sharp contrast to the norm. While many in positions of power tend to build walls around themselves, he consistently built bridges.
This quality, Rev. Jebaraj said, made it natural for even the simplest of people to approach him without fear or hesitation. Using a vivid social analogy, the presbyter described three kinds of people. Some, like cotton, absorb from society to strengthen their own power. Others, like clay, muddy and pollute what they mix with.
Sudhan Ayya, he said, belonged to the third kind, likened to sugar, which dissolves into water to make it sweet without changing its colour or destroying its essence.

Rev. Philip K. Mulley, Senior Presbyter, reflected on the deep spiritual legacy left behind by Mr. M.N. Sudhan Appadurai and said he had established a remarkable spiritual foundation that would continue to guide his children and grandchildren.
He noted that this legacy did not begin with Sudhan Appadurai alone, as he had also known his father, and described the family as one that had consistently upheld faith across generations.
Echoing earlier tributes, Rev. Mulley said Sudhan Appadurai consciously chose to build bridges rather than walls as he gained influence and stature.
He remained accessible and approachable, using his position to connect people instead of distancing himself from them.

Selvin Rajkumar, Founder of the Young Fishers Team, recalled Sudhan Appadurai’s inner values rather than public achievements, Selvin Rajkumar said Sudhan Ayya lived by a clear order of priorities, placing God first, family second and fellowship with others thereafter.
He observed that many challenges faced by families today arise from misplaced priorities, but Sudhan Ayya’s disciplined life stood as a living example of balance and stability.
Addressing Sudhan Ayya’s wife and children, the speaker shared biblical promises of comfort, assuring them of God’s continued presence and generational blessings for those who walk in faith.

Five Decades Of Integrity And Mentorship Remembered

Selvakumar, Regional Head of BBC Tamil, described Sudhan Appadurai as an “Ekalavya,” a devoted learner who first admired Sudhan Ayya from a distance before becoming a close associate, Selvakumar said his influence shaped generations of journalists in Coimbatore.
Despite being one of the most senior figures in the profession, Sudhan Ayya carried no sense of ego related to age, position or the size of the publication one worked for.
Young journalists arriving in the city were welcomed warmly, often with a reassuring hug and practical guidance on how to frame meaningful questions at press conferences. His encouragement, Selvakumar said, gave confidence to many who were just beginning their careers.

A Champion Of Justice And Communal Harmony Remembered

Hakkim, Secretary of Jamaat E Islami Hind, Coimbatore City, spoke on Sudhan Appadurai’s contribution to journalism, Hakkim said running a newspaper was never easy, particularly for small and ordinary publications.
Many journalists, he noted, learned the fundamentals of the profession under Sudhan Appadurai’s guidance, benefiting from his experience, discipline and encouragement.
Beyond journalism, he was also a distinguished figure in education and played a significant role in the management of CSI Girls School, earning respect as a great personality in the academic field.

A Mirror Of Justice, Integrity And Humanity Remembered

Advocate T.A. Selvaraj, Special Public Prosecutor, described Sudhan Ayya’s face as a reflection of his character, Selvaraj said three defining qualities were evident throughout his life.
The first was justice, which gave him a natural dignity and gravitas rooted in standing firmly for what was right.
The second was integrity, reflected in a life lived with honesty and moral clarity. The third, and perhaps the most striking, was his humanity. Despite his sharp intellect and positions of responsibility, Sudhan Ayya remained simple, approachable and free of arrogance, allowing anyone to engage with him without fear or hesitation.

A Lighthouse Of Ethics In Journalism Remembered

Karunakaran, Secretary of the Coimbatore Journalists Association, recalled Sudhan as a towering figure in journalism who placed public welfare above personal gain and mentorship above personal acclaim.
Referring to him affectionately as “Annan,” Karunakaran said Sudhan Appadurai’s journey from a working journalist to a respected leader in the media was guided by unwavering professional ethics. At press conferences addressed by Chief Ministers, while many sought advertisements or personal favours, Sudhan Appadurai consistently raised sharp, people-centric questions. He spoke about shortages of hospital beds, the presence of bedbugs in the Coimbatore Government Hospital and the deplorable condition of roads, never deviating from public interest.
Concluding his address, Karunakaran said Sudhan Appadurai’s true wealth was the immense love he earned. The overflowing crowd at his funeral, he said, stood as testimony to the vast bank of goodwill he built through a life of service, integrity and compassion.

A Righteous Life That Finished Its Course Remembered

Bro. Terrance Nesaraj Paul, Executive Director of Touch Ministries, praised Sudhan Appadurai as a neethimaan, or righteous man, the speaker said his life was marked by deep concern for others and genuine humility.
Though gentle in nature, he was never passive. When mistakes occurred, he was firm in correcting them, ensuring that matters were handled rightly.
This balance of kindness and principled authority, he said, defined the quality of his life and leadership.
Central to the tribute was a reflection on the biblical passage from 2 Timothy 4:7–8. Bro. Nesaraj Paul said Sudhan Appadurai had fought the good fight, finished his race and kept the faith. Because of this steadfast walk, he expressed confidence that a crown of righteousness and a crown of life had been prepared for him by God.
