A newly constructed toilet without partition walls at a government school in Aduthurai, Thanjavur district, has triggered widespread outrage, leading to the suspension of two officials.
The toilet complex, built at the Government Higher Secondary School in Aduthurai near Thiruvidaimarudur at a cost of ₹34 lakh, was inaugurated on October 6 by Town Panchayat Chairperson Ma Ka Stalin.
However, students and teachers were shocked to see that the toilets had been built without partition walls. Photos of the open design quickly went viral on social media, sparking public criticism over negligence in planning and execution.
Following the backlash, Trichy Zone Executive Engineer Subramanian and Thanjavur District Town Panchayat Assistant Director Magir Abubakkar inspected the site and directed immediate construction of partition walls.
Subsequently, Aduthurai Town Panchayat Executive Officer B. Kamalakannan and Junior Engineer R. Ramesh were suspended pending an inquiry into the incident.
Authorities have assured that corrective measures are underway and that accountability will be enforced to prevent similar lapses in the future.
