Bomb threat sparks heightened security at Madras High Court

Panic struck the Madras High Court premises today after an email warning of a bomb was received, prompting an extensive security operation. Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were immediately pressed into service, with searches carried out in judges’ chambers, court halls, and other sensitive areas.

Police officials said security arrangements have been tightened and every movement within the complex is being closely monitored.

This incident comes close on the heels of a similar bomb threat to the High Court last month and another to the Madras District Court just last week. The repeated threats have created a sense of unease among lawyers, litigants, and court staff.

The scare is not confined to Chennai. The Mumbai High Court also received a bomb threat email today, triggering a parallel search operation. Earlier, on September 12, the Delhi High Court was targeted with a similar threat.

While schools across the country have periodically faced hoax bomb threats, authorities note that the rising number of threats to courts marks a worrying trend, underlining the need for stronger security measures.
