Tension prevailed in Chennai on Monday after bomb threats were reported at the residences of veteran actor Rajinikanth and his son-in-law, actor Dhanush. Police and bomb disposal squads rushed to the spots and carried out extensive searches, which later confirmed the threats were hoaxes.
According to police sources, anonymous calls were received in the morning claiming that explosives had been planted at the actors’ homes.
Immediately, sniffer dogs and bomb detection units were deployed to Rajinikanth’s residence in Poes Garden and Dhanush’s house in Alwarpet.
Both areas were temporarily cordoned off as officials conducted a thorough inspection. After an hour-long search, no suspicious materials were found. Police have now launched a cyber-trace investigation to identify and arrest the person behind the hoax calls.
In a similar incident, a bomb threat was also made to the residence of Tamil Nadu Congress leader Selvaperunthagai in Kilpauk, Chennai. Bomb squad personnel conducted checks there as well, which also turned out to be a false alarm.
Over the past few months, Tamil Nadu has witnessed a series of such fake bomb threats targeting political leaders, celebrities, and public institutions.
Authorities have assured that security around the celebrities’ residences remains tight as investigations continue.
