The Central Bureau of Investigation has summoned Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay to appear for questioning on March 15 in connection with the Karur stampede case in which 41 people lost their lives.
Vijay had earlier appeared twice before CBI officials in New Delhi and provided explanations as part of the investigation into the incident.
The CBI had initially asked Vijay to appear in person on Wednesday for further questioning. However, Vijay sought exemption citing election-related engagements and requested that he be allowed to appear before the agency at its Chennai office.
Following this request, the CBI has now issued a fresh summons asking him to appear for inquiry on March 15.
TVK Joint General Secretary Nirmal Kumar said Vijay would appear before the CBI on the scheduled date. He also clarified that the party’s stand against forming an alliance with the BJP remains unchanged.
Nirmal Kumar further stated that there were no secret talks with the BJP and that the party did not consider it necessary to respond to speculation regarding such reports.
