Chennai-based Omana was crowned Miss Transgender 2026 at the annual Koovagam festival, a vibrant cultural event held in Koovagam, drawing thousands of transgender participants from across India and abroad.
The festival, centred around the renowned Koothandavar Temple, began earlier this month and continues with a series of traditional rituals and cultural programmes.
A key highlight is the symbolic marriage ceremony, where transgender women dress as brides and participate in age-old customs associated with Aravan worship.
As part of the celebrations, a transgender beauty pageant was organised near the Villupuram new bus stand by the National Transgender Federation along with community leaders and charitable groups.
The event was presided over by federation vice-president Jeeva Ammal.
Participants from cities including Chennai, Tiruchi, Salem, Coimbatore, Bengaluru, and Puducherry showcased their talents in colourful attire, competing across multiple rounds judged on style, cultural expression, and confidence.
After initial rounds, 12 contestants advanced, with five finalists selected for the Decisioning stage.
The finalists were evaluated through questions on general knowledge and awareness topics, including AIDS.
Omana from Chennai secured the title with her performance, while Saisree, also from Chennai, finished second, and Swiggy claimed third place.
The winners were awarded cash prizes of Rs. 20,000, Rs. 15,000, and Rs. 10,000 respectively, and were felicitated by fellow participants amid celebrations.
