Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin on Friday made a surprise visit to the Tiruvannamalai Municipal Government Model School after inaugurating newly constructed school and hostel buildings in Tiruvannamalai district at a total cost of Rs. 56.47 crore.
The Chief Minister inaugurated the Government Model School building along with separate hostel facilities for boys and girls constructed by the School Education Department to strengthen educational infrastructure for government school
students.
Following the inauguration, he visited the school premises and interacted directly with students, enquiring about the facilities provided and their academic requirements.
The newly constructed Government Model School campus has been established on 4.52 acres in Tiruvannamalai
city.
The main school building, built at a cost of Rs. 19.33 crore, consists of a ground floor and two upper floors with 22 classrooms, chemistry, physics and biology laboratories, two high-tech computer laboratories, a library, art and craft training room, multipurpose hall, teachers’ rooms, and special facilities for differently-abled students.
Separate four-storeyed hostel buildings for boys and girls have been constructed at a cost of Rs. 18.57 crore each. The hostels together provide accommodation for 832 students, with 416 beds each for boys and girls.
They are equipped with common rooms and libraries, kitchens, storage rooms, dining halls with seating for 200 students each, lifts, water purifiers, hot water facilities, fire safety systems, and adequate sanitation and water supply infrastructure.
The Government Model School scheme is aimed at providing government school students with opportunities to excel in academics, fine arts and sports, while enabling them to pursue higher education in science, technology, engineering, arts and medicine at premier institutions.
During the visit, the Chief Minister personally congratulated Srinisha, a Class X student, who won third place at the National Chess Championship held in Tripura from November 27 to 30.
He examined her medal and certificate and appreciated her achievement, encouraging her to continue striving for excellence.

Panneerselvam, Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Ku. Pichandi, Tiruvannamalai District Collector K. Tharpagaraj, Tamil Nadu Model Schools Member Secretary R. Sudhan, and senior government officials were present during the visit.
