The Coimbatore Race Course shimmered in pink on Sunday evening as Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) illuminated Thomas Park to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thousands of residents gathered to witness the spectacular transformation, celebrating courage, hope, and unity in the fight against breast cancer.

KMCH, one of Coimbatore’s premier multi-specialty hospitals, organized the event for the second consecutive year to raise awareness about early detection and treatment. The initiative emphasized that while breast cancer claims over 500,000 lives globally each year, nearly 90% of early-stage cases are curable.
As part of the campaign, KMCH launched a signature drive and bathed the entire Thomas Park area in pink light. The iconic Media Tree glowed with breast cancer awareness messages on its giant LED screen, while women participants carried pink-colored bags symbolizing solidarity with survivors and ongoing efforts to conquer the disease.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman of KMCH, Dr. Thavamani Devi Palaniswami, Vice Chairman, and Dr. Arun N. Palaniswami, Executive Director.
Dignitaries who graced the occasion included Coimbatore District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, IAS, Coimbatore City Corporation Mayor K. Ranganayaki, West Zone IG T. Senthil Kumar, IPS, Coimbatore Range DIG V. Sasi Mohan, IPS, Coimbatore District SP Dr. K. Karthikeyan, IPS, Coimbatore City Headquarters Deputy Commissioner M.P. Dhivya, Coimbatore City Traffic Deputy Commissioner S. Ashok Kumar, Coimbatore Joint Director of Health Services Dr. Sumathi, and Coimbatore Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Balusamy.
Dr. Rupa, Lead Consultant, KMCH Breast Center, also participated in the event alongside hundreds of doctors, students, and KMCH staff.
As the pink lights illuminated the night sky, the city stood united — reaffirming the message that early detection can save lives and that awareness is the first step toward defeating breast cancer.
