Cong opposes SIR of voter list

The Election Commission’s current special intensive revision of voter list in Tamil Nadu is not justified in any way, said Erode District Youth Congress former president Gauthaman.
An all-party meeting was held in Erode Corporation regarding the SRI. Erode City Congress president Tiruchelvam, administrators Jafar Sadiq, Vijayabaskar, Arif, Selvaraj and others participated in it.
Gauthaman said:
Although this reform is necessary, there is no time to conduct this work honestly and properly when the assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu soon.
There are already many chances of votes being denied for those who voted after the 2002 elections and fake voters being registered as new voters. At least a year is needed to make SIR. It is not right to conduct a meeting to provide training and undertake this task in a hurry. When preparing a new voter list, a decision should be made by comparing the list of those who have voted in the elections since 2002. Eligible voters should be accepted. They should decide that they do not need to apply anew.
The list of those who have died and those who have migrated to another area should be checked.
Those who have gone abroad due to their work, and
those who cannot come to their home for more than three months, are less likely to use this correction work. Those who cannot be met even after the polling booth inspectors come three times, there is a chance that their names will be excluded. This is because if the people in the neighborhood know about them that they will vote for particular party, they will not cite that voters are genuine. Daily wage laborers who go to work, and those with low education who go outside for work, are very unlikely to participate in the SIR.
There is also a possibility of enrolling people who have no connection with Tamil Nadu as voters. The government, which has said that Aadhaar is important for everything so far, should take it as the main source for SIR.
For this, the Tamil Nadu government should take up the legal fight with the support of all parties.
There is a fear that this amendment will reduce the voter turnout.
Therefore, this amendment that is against democracy should be abandoned. The existing voter list should be kept and if there are fake voters in it, the work of deleting it and deleting the name of the deceased should be done.
