A woman Congress functionary was arrested for allegedly harassing a police inspector with repeated phone calls, messages and suicide threats at Ramamurthy Nagar in Bengaluru.
Police identified the accused as Sanjana alias Vanaja, 38, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar. The complainant, Satheesh, is an inspector attached to the Ramamurthy Nagar police station. According to the complaint, Sanjana had recently come into contact with the inspector and later began calling him repeatedly, expressing her love and insisting that he reciprocate. Initially suspecting it to be a prank, the inspector ignored the calls. However, she allegedly continued to contact him from as many as 11 different mobile numbers.
Police said the accused also sent bouquets to the police station and repeatedly messaged the inspector through text messages and WhatsApp. She allegedly claimed proximity to senior political leaders, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar, and attempted to pressure the inspector into a relationship. The harassment reportedly escalated when Sanjana visited the Ramamurthy Nagar police station, handed over a love letter written in blood and threatened to end her life if the inspector refused her proposal. Distressed by the continued harassment and suicide threats, Inspector Satheesh lodged a formal complaint at the same police station. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and Sanjana was arrested. Speaking to reporters, Inspector Satheesh said the woman is married and separated from her husband, while he himself is married and has children. He said he was unable to understand the reason behind her actions.
The incident has triggered considerable discussion within police circles and political quarters in the city.
