DGCA Proposes New Rules for Airline Ticket Refunds

In a move aimed at protecting air passengers’ rights, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has proposed new rules to make airline ticket cancellations and refunds more transparent and passenger-friendly.
Until now, passengers who cancelled their flight tickets often received minimal refunds after airlines deducted heavy cancellation charges. To address this issue, the DGCA has introduced draft regulations revising the refund policy.
According to the proposed rules, passengers will be allowed to cancel or modify their tickets without any charges within 48 hours (two days) of booking, provided the scheduled departure is at least a week away.
Officials said the reform is intended to ensure fair treatment for passengers and prevent arbitrary deductions by airlines. The draft rules have been released for public feedback before being finalized.
