Father dies while trying to save daughter

In a tragic incident near Kulithalai in Karur district, a father lost his life while attempting to save his daughter who had jumped into a well in an apparent suicide attempt.
The deceased has been identified as Annadurai, 55, a resident of Kuppanampatti village under Pappakkapatti panchayat.
His daughter, Dhanalakshmi, 19, reportedly jumped into an agricultural irrigation well near their house on Sunday night following a family dispute.
On learning about the incident, Annadurai immediately jumped into the well in an attempt to rescue his daughter.
Sources said he was under the influence of alcohol at the time. Unable to swim back, Annadurai drowned in the well.
After receiving information, personnel from the Kulithalai fire and rescue services rushed to the spot around midnight and carried out a search operation.
They managed to rescue Dhanalakshmi alive, as she was found clinging to the inner wall of the well.
Annadurai’s body was later recovered from the well. Kulithalai police arrived at the scene and sent the body to the District Government Headquarters Hospital in Kulithalai for post-mortem examination.
The Kulithalai police have registered a case in connection with the incident and are conducting further investigation.
