An 86-year-old Fijian-Indian businessman has earned global admiration for his remarkable humility and generosity — driving an Uber car at night to fund the education of underprivileged girls in India.
The heartwarming story was shared by Indian entrepreneur Nav Shah, who recently visited Fiji and booked an Uber ride during his stay. To his surprise, the driver who arrived was not a typical chauffeur but one of the country’s most successful businessmen.
When Shah asked whether his Uber earnings were sufficient, the elderly man smiled and revealed that he did not drive for money, but for a cause close to his heart — supporting the education of 24 poor girls in India.
According to reports, the businessman’s family operates a thriving empire founded by his father in 1929, which includes 13 jewellery stores, six restaurants, four supermarkets, and a newspaper. The company reportedly generates an annual turnover of about ₹1,500 crore (US $175 million).
Despite his wealth, the 86-year-old spends his nights driving Uber cars to raise funds for girls’ education. “My three daughters are highly educated and successful. I want every girl to have the same opportunity in life,” he said.
His act of kindness has gone viral on social media, with users praising him as a “true inspiration” and a living reminder that success is best measured by the difference one makes in others’ lives.
