Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman on Wednesday released the party’s 462-page election manifesto, outlining key proposals ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly
elections. The manifesto, covering 49 subjects, proposes the creation of five state capitals at Chennai, Tiruchirappalli, Coimbatore, Madurai and Kanniyakumari to decentralise administration. It also emphasises restructuring constituencies and strengthening parliamentary representation.
Among major political reforms, the party has proposed that the President of India be elected directly by the people.
It has also pledged to push for legal amendments in the process of selecting Rajya Sabha members and appointing Union Ministers.
The manifesto calls for establishing a Bench of the Supreme Court in Chennai and ensuring that all court procedures and forms are made available in Tamil.
It also stresses that administrative and judicial systems should function primarily in the Tamil language. In a significant proposal aimed at women’s representation, the party has promised to create exclusive constituencies for women, on the lines of those reserved for Scheduled Castes.
The party has also vowed to take steps to grant voting rights to Tamils living abroad and prioritise Tamils in opportunities and representation.
It further seeks to secure 75 per cent share of Goods and Services Tax revenue for states.
On the electoral front, the manifesto promises to make voting compulsory and replace the electronic voting system with a ballot-based system. It also proposes issuing a receipt to voters after casting their vote.
The document strongly advocates state autonomy and federalism at the Union level, positioning these as key principles of governance if the party comes to power.
