According to the draft electoral roll, the total number of voters in Tamil Nadu has now come down to 5 crore 43 lakh 76 thousand 755. At the same time, a total of 97 lakh 37 thousand 832 voters have been removed from the list. This is more than 15 percent of the total voters. According to the information provided by the Election Commission, 26 lakh 94 thousand 672 of the removed voters are deceased. 3 lakh 98 thousand 278 people had double registration.
But the number of people who were removed because they were not at the address was 66 lakh 44 thousand 881. There is doubt as to whether all of these people are truly not at the address or whether there are also eligible voters who were wrongly removed.
Voters who feel their names have been wrongly removed can apply for re-inclusion in the electoral roll through Form 6. The deadline for this is January 18. Form 7 is used for voter name verification and removal, and Form 8 is used for correction and transfer. Aadhaar number alone will not be accepted as a document.
In addition, authorized documents such as birth certificate or residence proof must also be submitted. So far, only about 4 lakh 42 thousand people have applied for inclusion in the electoral roll. These petitions will be verified and eligible people will be re-included in the list.
For this, special voter list camps are being held in Tamil Nadu in the second phase today and tomorrow. The Election Commission has requested voters to take advantage of this. It has been said that the final voter list will be published on February 17.
Voting is not only a democratic duty but also a right. Only when the name of a genuine voter is included in the voter list without missing a single one, the democratic festival of elections will be held in a grand manner, without complaints or accusations.
Every voter should ensure that their name is included in the list. Otherwise, they should at least attend the camp tomorrow and ensure that their name is included. The polling agents of political parties should work diligently to provide necessary guidelines at the camps and restore their voting rights.
