The Madras High Court has directed the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), DMK, AIADMK and the Election Commission of India to respond to a petition alleging misuse of children during the recent Tamil Nadu Assembly election campaign. The petition was filed by Vasuki, who alleged electoral malpractice and claimed that minors were used in campaign activities by political parties, including the TVK led by Chief Minister Vijay.
According to the petition, children were allegedly involved in campaign events and were encouraged to influence their parents to vote for the party.
The plea also raised allegations against the DMK and AIADMK regarding election-related violations.
During the hearing, the High Court issued notices to the concerned parties seeking their replies to the allegations raised in the petition. The TVK-led alliance had secured victory in the recent Assembly elections, winning 108 seats with the support of alliance partners including the DMK, Congress, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML. Vijay assumed office as the Chief Minister on May 10.
