With the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, also known as the 106th Constitutional Amendment Act, 2023, reserving one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, the focus is steadily shifting towards preparing women to effectively utilise this historic opportunity.
In this context, Young Indians Tiruppur, in association with The Penn Collective, organised an awareness and empowerment session titled “From Grassroots to Government:
Women’s Path to Political Empowerment” at Theeran Chinnamalai College of Arts and Science for Women here on Saturday.
The session emphasised the need to educate women not only to contest elections as confident and informed candidates but also to function as alert and empowered voters. Speakers highlighted that building a gender-sensitive and inclusive society required breaking the long-standing dichotomy between women and politics and encouraging active participation in democratic processes.
Political thinker Shivanjali Kamble led an interactive discussion, urging young women to understand the political system, develop informed perspectives and actively engage with governance at all levels.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, reflecting growing interest among women to play a decisive role in shaping the country’s political
future.
