Kathir Institutions celebrated International Women’s Day with grandeur through its special programme “Kathir’s Singapenne 2026” held at The Pandal. The event highlighted the achievements of women across multiple fields and emphasised the importance of women’s empowerment in education and society.
The programme was held under the leadership of E.S. Kathir, Chairman of Kathir Institutions, and Mithilesh, Vice Chairman. The function was presided over by Lavanya Kathir, Secretary, who reiterated the institution’s commitment to supporting and encouraging women in engineering, arts and science, education and management studies.
V. Bharathi Harishankar, Vice Chancellor of Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, participated as the chief guest and delivered the keynote address. She spoke about the growing role of women in shaping a progressive and inclusive society and encouraged students to pursue leadership roles in various sectors.
Several accomplished women from diverse professions interacted with students and shared their experiences. Among them were Brigadier N. Ambika (Retd), Squadron Leader Ankita Singh and Z. Annie Vijaya, IPS, representing defence and law enforcement. Entrepreneurs and professionals including Jeyasree Ravi, Aparna Sunku, Jaya Mahesh, Gayathri Natarajan, C. Banumathy and M. Kavitha also addressed the gathering. Sportsperson Nausheen Banu Chand shared insights from her journey in athletics.
The programme was coordinated by convenors R. Karpagam, Principal of Kathir College of Arts and Science, R. Kiruthika, Principal in-charge of the College of Education, and R. Udaiyakumar, Principal of the Engineering College.
The celebration concluded with a call to recognise women’s achievements and strengthen opportunities for them across all sectors.
