KMCH hosts liver nutricon 2026

Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital hosted “Liver Nutricon 2026”, a one-day international seminar on nutrition for liver, pancreas and gastrointestinal diseases, drawing experts and healthcare professionals from across regions.
The conference marked the launch of the “KMCH Liver Diet”, a specialised nutritional plan developed to address the growing prevalence of fatty liver disease, also referred to as steatotic liver disease, and to manage nutritional deficiencies among patients with chronic liver disease and liver failure. The diet has been formulated through collaborative research by the KMCH Liver Transplantation Team, the KMCH Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and Dr. N.G.P. College of Arts and Science.
Based on clinical research, the plan ensures precise intake of essential macronutrients and micronutrients to support liver function and enhance overall health
outcomes. Structured to suit the local geographical and dietary context, the programme utilises commonly available ingredients, making the therapeutic diet practical and
accessible. The recommendations are largely vegetarian, aligning with prevailing food habits in the region.
The conference featured technical sessions led by hepatologists, gastroenterologists and clinical nutrition experts. Around 300 participants, including dietitians, doctors and students from Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem and Palakkad, took part in the scientific deliberations, focusing on the critical role of medical nutrition therapy in managing complex hepatic, pancreatic and intestinal disorders.
Dr. Nalla G. Palaniswami, Chairman and Managing Director of KMCH, emphasised that the conference is timely in view of the increasing burden of fatty liver disease.
He stated that KMCH is committed to adopting a scientific and preventive approach to safeguard liver health and support patients undergoing liver treatment and transplantation.
In his concluding address, KMCH Executive Director Dr. Arun Palaniswami called for sustained interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes through structured nutritional care and comprehensive rehabilitation support.
