Let’s buy electric vehicles to check air pollution

Air pollution has become a major problem in our country. The capital Delhi has been receiving increasing snowfall since the beginning of December. Fog is also becoming more prevalent. Due to this, people are driving slowly and leaving their headlights on while driving.
Along with this, air pollution is also increasing and causing hardship to the people. The people of Delhi are suffering due to respiratory problems and susceptibility to infections. At times, it is not even possible to send children to schools. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari himself has sounded the alarm, saying that it is scary to even enter Delhi.
Air pollution is increasing in other cities like Chennai. During the Diwali festival, the bursting of crackers causes air pollution. It gradually decreases later. As far as Delhi is concerned, the smoke generated by the burning of crop residues in neighboring states is causing pollution.

However, the most important cause of air pollution is vehicles powered by petrol and diesel. Even in small towns, two-wheelers and cars have started plying in large numbers.
Therefore, it is imperative to control air pollution. The only way to do that is to promote the use of electric vehicles.
Electric vehicles are being seen as a sustainable transportation solution that protects the environment. To prevent environmental damage, the central and state governments have advised the use of electric vehicles and CNG-powered vehicles instead of petrol and diesel.
People are also increasingly interested in buying and using electric vehicles. As the demand for electric vehicles is increasing across India, Tamil Nadu is leading in the production of electric vehicles.
In addition, the Tamil Nadu government is also working with special attention to promoting the use of electric vehicles. For this, it was providing 100 percent road tax exemption. Due to this, the use of electric vehicles in Tamil Nadu has reached 7.8 percent by 2025. Moreover, the tax exemption benefit ends Dec last. In this situation, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that this 100 percent road tax exemption will be extended for another two years from January 1st to December 31st, 2027.
The steps taken by the Tamil Nadu government to increase the use of electric vehicles as a guide for other states are commendable. Similarly, the central and state governments should expedite measures to control pollution.
