Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin are scheduled to campaign in Coimbatore on Saturday, with elaborate security arrangements put in place across the city.
With the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections slated for April 23, political campaigning has intensified across the State. Leaders of major parties are actively canvassing support for their candidates in the final phase.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will address a public meeting at Pandian Nagar in Tiruppur this evening. He will then travel by road to Mettupalayam, where he is scheduled to address another meeting at 7 p.m. in support of candidates from Mettupalayam, Ooty, Gudalur, Coonoor, Kaundampalayam and Thondamuthur constituencies. He is expected to later depart from Coimbatore airport to Chennai by a private flight.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Coimbatore from New Delhi by a private flight in the evening. He will participate in a public meeting at the CODISSIA grounds in support of AIADMK-BJP alliance candidates.
In view of the high-profile visits, traffic diversions have been implemented in parts of the city. Around 2,600 police personnel have been deployed across Coimbatore and its suburbs to ensure security.
Police officials, under the supervision of City Police Commissioner Kannan and District Superintendent of Police Karthikeyan, have intensified surveillance and security arrangements for the events.
