Police pay tributes to 13-Year-old sniffer dog Sindhu

Police personnel, led by the Acting City Police Commissioner, paid solemn tributes to Sindhu, a 13-year-old sniffer dog from the Bomb Detection Unit, who passed away last night due to age-related health complications.
The Coimbatore City Sniffer Dog Unit, located behind the City Police Commissioner’s Office, houses more than 20 trained dogs that assist in investigations including theft, murder, bomb threats, and narcotics cases. These dogs undergo daily training and are cared for by a team of handlers led by a sub-inspector. Sindhu, a female Labrador retriever, was inducted into the unit on April 1, 2013, and was named by the then Police Commissioner Shailendra Babu. Assigned to the Explosives Detection Unit, she contributed significantly to bomb detection and threat verification operations across the city and district. After eight years of service, Sindhu retired on September 3, 2021, and continued to live at the unit under police care. In recent days, her health deteriorated, and despite treatment, she passed away on Monday night. Sindhu was laid to rest with full police honors. Coimbatore City Police Commissioner Saravana Sundar and other senior officials paid their final respects to the loyal canine who served the department with distinction.
