Pollachi Member of Parliament K. Eswarasamy on Tuesday raised concern in Parliament over farmers being denied benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme due to poor internet and telecommunication facilities in rural areas.
Participating in the Winter Session, the MP said the PM-Kisan scheme provides annual financial assistance of Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers, released in three instalments of Rs 2,000 each through direct benefit transfer after Aadhaar linking and completion of mandatory e-KYC.
He pointed out that farmers residing in remote and interior villages are facing serious difficulties in completing online verification procedures owing to weak internet connectivity and inadequate telecom infrastructure. As a result, several eligible beneficiaries are unable to access the assistance meant for their livelihood support.
K. Eswarasamy informed the House that slow internet services, repeated failures in online verification and delays in document processing have caused widespread distress among farmers.
Seeking the Centre’s response, he asked what steps the Union Government has taken to ensure that farmers from connectivity-deprived regions receive PM-Kisan benefits without interruption and that implementation hurdles are addressed effectively.
