More than one lakh people visited and enjoyed the Coimbatore Semmozhi Park during the Pongal festival holidays, according to the Corporation administration.
The Semmozhi Park, developed at a cost of ₹208.50 crore over an area of about 45 acres in the Gandhipuram area of Coimbatore district, attracts a large number of visitors, including the general public and school students, on a daily basis.
The park features an impressive entrance with a waterfall and showcases trees mentioned in Sangam literature, including Chenpaka, Kal Ilavu, pepper, sea grape and Thiruvottu trees. It also houses a classical forest with rare species such as Kaliputa, Vari Kamuku, Malai Poovarasu, Elichuzhi and Kumkumam trees, along with aromatic plants.
Spread across 38.60 acres, the park includes themed zones such as the Ainthinai forest, health forest, flower forest, riddle forest, shade forest, rose garden with over 1,000 varieties, herbal garden, pollen garden, water garden, rock garden, bamboo garden, star garden and a green forest.
During the Pongal holidays, 23,819 people visited the park on January 15 (Thursday), 31,744 on January 16 (Friday), 25,848 on January 17 (Saturday) and 18,743 on January 18 (Sunday). In total, 1,00,154 visitors thronged the park during the festive period, officials said.
