The PSG College of Nursing marked a significant milestone with the conduct of its 32nd Lamp Lighting Ceremony at the PSG IMS&R Auditorium, bringing together healthcare leaders, faculty members and aspiring nursing students in a solemn and inspiring atmosphere.
The programme commenced at 10.30 a.m. with a welcome address by Dr. Jeyadeepa R, Principal of PSG College of Nursing. In her address, she highlighted the sacred responsibility shouldered by nursing professionals and reiterated the institution’s commitment to nurturing skilled, compassionate and ethically grounded caregivers for society.
A key moment of the ceremony was the lighting of the traditional Kuthuvizhakku by the dignitaries, symbolising the illumination of knowledge and wisdom. The flame was then passed on to the students, signifying the transfer of responsibility and the continuation of the noble nursing tradition. Dr. Anuratha, Nursing Superintendent of PSG Hospitals, led the students in taking the International Pledge for Nurses, formally inducting them into the nursing profession.

Ms. Marielle Schmied, Senior Lecturer at the Haute École de Santé Vaud, Switzerland, attended the function as the Guest of Honour and shared insights from the global nursing landscape, encouraging students to pursue excellence with an international perspective.
The Chief Guest, Ms. Shanti Teresa Lakra, Padma Shri awardee and Auxiliary Nurse Midwife with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Tribal Health Section in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, delivered a stirring address. Drawing from her experience in remote and challenging regions, she spoke about the transformative role of nurses in underserved communities and stressed the importance of cultural sensitivity, lifelong learning, respect for patients and teachers, and a deep commitment to service, sacrifice and humanity.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Prof. Meera S, Vice Principal of PSG College of Nursing, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries and participants for making the event meaningful and memorable.
