A wedding ceremony in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, descended into chaos after a shortage of rasgullas led to a heated dispute between the families of the bride and groom. The incident took place at a hotel in Bodh Gaya on November 29.
According to the Bodh Gaya police, after the wedding rituals were completed, a quarrel broke out when the bride’s family objected to the non-availability of rasgullas. What began as a verbal argument soon escalated into a violent clash, with members of both sides attacking each other using chairs, plates and other objects found at the venue. Several people sustained injuries in the incident.
Following the clash, the bride’s family lodged a dowry harassment complaint, which the police said appeared to be false at first glance. During the melee, the bride’s mother, Munni Devi, alleged that the groom’s family took away the jewellery that had been brought as gifts for the bride. On the other hand, the groom’s family claimed that they had borne the hotel booking expenses themselves.
Relatives of the groom stated that while the groom’s family was willing to proceed with the wedding despite the dispute, the bride’s family refused to continue with the marriage.
