Residents of the Keerapakkam Housing Board complex near Vandalur passed a resolution at a “Makkal Sabai” meeting on Thursday warning that they would boycott the upcoming Assembly elections if their civic demands are not fulfilled.
More than 100 women and several residents participated in the meeting and highlighted the lack of basic facilities in the housing complex built by the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board. The complex, which has 1,760 housing units, was inaugurated on May 11 last year.
Residents said key facilities such as a mobile phone tower, CCTV cameras, a Primary Health Centre, a police booth, an electric crematorium, a bus shelter, a mobile ambulance service and a perimeter wall are yet to be provided.
They also complained about poor mobile connectivity, absence of burial facilities and increasing movement of anti-social elements.
Despite submitting several petitions to officials, no action has been taken so far, residents said, urging the Chief Minister to intervene before the Assembly elections.
