Robber injured in Police firing dies during treatment

A suspected robber from Uttar Pradesh, who was injured during police firing in Coimbatore, died today while undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Government Hospital.
Two days ago, a major burglary took place at the Tamil Nadu Government Housing Board apartments in Koundampalayam on the Coimbatore–Mettupalayam Road. A total of 13 houses were broken into, and thieves escaped with 42 sovereigns of jewellery, ₹1.50 lakh in cash, and 500 grams of silver articles.
Following the complaint, the koundampalayam police registered a case and formed a special team to track down the suspects. During their investigation, officers traced the gang to a hideout in P.K. Puthur Thirunagar Colony near Kuniyamuthur.
Yesterday morning, the special team surrounded the house. When the suspects allegedly attacked the police and tried to escape, officers opened fire. All three were arrested with gunshot injuries. They were identified as Irfan (43) from the Majidpura area of Uttar Pradesh, Kallu Arif (60) from the Ghaziwala locality, and Asif (45) from the Ghazipur region.
The injured men were admitted to the Coimbatore Government Hospital under police protection. Asif, who had sustained a bullet injury to his right leg, reportedly continued to bleed heavily. He was shifted to the emergency ward for treatment, but he died later in the day.
Police said severe blood loss from the wound is believed to be the cause of death. As the deceased was in custody, a magistrate inquiry has been ordered.
Asif’s body has been kept at the hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Further investigation is underway to determine whether medical procedures were followed properly and to probe any possible lapses in treatment.
