Rowdy shot in leg after allegedly attacking policeman during arrest attempt near Tambaram

A 29-year-old rowdy with more than 20 criminal cases was shot in the leg by police after he allegedly attacked a policeman with a knife while attempting to escape near Tambaram.
The accused, Mohammed Saddam Hussain of Madambakkam near Manimangalam, is facing cases related to murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and ganja trafficking. A warrant was also pending against him.
Acting on a tip-off that Saddam Hussain was hiding with his associate Pallavaram Thondai Saravanan in a forest area near Karasangal, police personnel led by Tambaram Deputy Commissioner Karthikeyan surrounded the area and arrested both men.
During interrogation, Saddam Hussain allegedly told police that ganja had been concealed in the Karasangal reserve forest. Early on Saturday, Sub-Inspector Murugan, police constable Satheesh and other personnel took him to the location.
Police said Saddam Hussain suddenly took out a knife that had allegedly been hidden there and attacked Constable Satheesh, injuring his hand, before attempting to flee.
Sub-Inspector Murugan then fired one round from his service weapon, hitting Saddam Hussain below the left knee. He fell to the ground and was subsequently taken to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai for treatment. Constable Satheesh was also admitted to the same hospital.
Police recovered four machetes, country-made bombs and 28 kg of ganja from the area. Manimangalam police are conducting further investigations.
