Sengottaiyan signals major political shift by January

Western Zone Coordinator of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), K.A. Sengottaiyan, on Sunday said that all questions surrounding alliances and the party’s future course of action would be answered by the first week of January.
Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport, Sengottaiyan said TVK leader Vijay had recently returned from Malaysia after participating in an audio launch event.
He claimed the massive public turnout at the event had taken even Malaysia by surprise and attracted global attention.
He said that in Malaysia, roadshows are usually permitted only for Prime Ministers and Presidents, but special permission was granted for Vijay, which he described as unprecedented.
He added that Vijay’s return to Tamil Nadu, particularly to Bhavani, would mark the arrival of a historic leader.
Sengottaiyan said he was witnessing widespread public support for Vijay’s leadership across Tamil Nadu.
Recalling his long political career, he said the present situation reminded him of the political wave seen during MGR’s rise in 1972 and Jayalalithaa’s emergence in 1998.
He asserted that a major political transformation was currently unfolding in the State and expressed confidence that the people’s power would ensure its success.
Responding to reports about Congress functionaries joining the TVK, Sengottaiyan said such developments had not yet been formally brought to his attention.
He added that a decision would be taken only after the matter was discussed within the party.
On comments made by VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan regarding the TVK, Sengottaiyan said every leader was entitled to express their opinion.
He also referred to past political positions taken by various leaders, including NTK chief Seeman, and said such histories should not be forgotten.
On the fishermen’s issue, he said public demands must be carefully examined before taking action.
Sengottaiyan made it clear that only those who accepted Vijay as the Chief Ministerial face could be part of any alliance.
Reiterating his earlier remarks, he said the alliance picture would become clear by the first week of January, adding that the party’s stance reflected the sentiments of the people.
