Senior citizens thank Chief Minister Stalin for launch of ‘Anbu Cholai’ centres in Coimbatore

Beneficiaries of the newly established ‘Anbu cholai’ Centres in Coimbatore district have expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for introducing the initiative aimed at enhancing the well-being and quality of life of senior citizens.
Implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Women’s Rights, the Anbu Solai Centres serve as day-care and wellness hubs for the elderly, providing facilities that promote physical health, mental well-being, and social interaction.
The centres are designed to help senior citizens remain active, connected, and emotionally supported, while also easing the burden on working families who struggle to provide full-time care at home.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated 25 ‘Anbu cholai’ Centres on November 10 in Tiruchirappalli, underlining the government’s commitment to dignified elder care.
The initiative includes two centres each across ten Municipal Corporations, three within the Chennai Corporation, and two in the industrial districts of Ranipet and Krishnagiri.
In Coimbatore district, the centres have been established at Keeranatham (Prabhakam Sanittha Trust) and Mettupalayam (Cooperative Colony, Viluthugal Trust).
These facilities offer nutritious meals, recreational activities, reading spaces, and wellness support for senior citizens.
Expressing her appreciation, Mrs. Anuradha (61) of Saravanampatti, who attends the Keeranatham Anbu cholai Centre, said,
“After my family members leave for work, I’m usually alone. But here, I spend time with others my age, play games, and share conversations. The food and care we receive here make me feel happy and refreshed.
I thank the Hon’ble Chief Minister for launching such a thoughtful scheme for elders like me.”
Similarly, Mr. Nagaraj (61) from Saravanampatti IT Petrol Bunk area shared,
“At Anbu cholai, I get to meet many people my age, read newspapers, and play carrom. It feels like home, and my loneliness has disappeared.
This initiative truly brings comfort and joy to senior citizens. I’m deeply thankful to the Chief Minister for this welfare measure.”
The ‘Anbu cholai’ scheme reflects Tamil Nadu’s long-standing tradition of honouring and caring for the elderly, while promoting a compassionate community model that strengthens family bonds and reduces reliance on full-time institutional care.
The news release was issued by A. Senthil Anna, Public Relations Officer (News), and Saran, Assistant Public Relations Officer (News), Coimbatore District.
