Southern Railway Athlete Bharanica Selected to Represent India in South Korea

Southern Railway athlete E. Bharanica has been selected to represent India in an international pole vault competition scheduled to be held in South Korea next week.
Bharanica, who works as Senior Clerk in the Office of the Principal Chief Personnel Officer of Southern Railway, has been delivering outstanding performances in national athletics and has emerged as one of India’s leading pole vaulters.
She recently created back-to-back national records in 2026 by clearing 4.22 metres at the first Indoor National Athletics Championship and later improving the mark to 4.23 metres at the Combined Events and Pole Vault Competition.
Her impressive run also includes gold medal victories at the 64th Open National Athletics Championship in 2025 and the 63rd edition in 2024 while representing Indian Railways.
Bharanica also secured gold with a meet record at the 64th Inter-State National Athletics Championship in 2025, further strengthening her position in Indian athletics.
At the international level, she has represented India at the Asian Indoor Games held in Iran in 2024 and participated in several global competitions. She had earlier won a bronze medal at the Busan International Pole Vault Meet in 2022.
Southern Railway officials congratulated Bharanica on her achievements and extended best wishes for her upcoming international assignment.
The Southern Railway Sports Association has played a major role in nurturing pole vault talent over the years, producing athletes including former national record holders V.S. Surekha and K.P. Bimin.
Railway officials said promising young athletes such as Gowtham, Pavithra and Sakthi Mahendran are also being groomed to continue Southern Railway’s strong legacy in athletics.
Southern Railway management, under General Manager R.N. Singh and Additional General Manager Vipin Kumar, has been actively encouraging sports development and supporting athletes to excel at national and international competitions.
