Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi president Thol. Thirumavalavan on Wednesday said no final decision had been taken regarding support to the Vijay-led Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam for government formation in Tamil Nadu.
Speaking to reporters after meeting DMK president M.K. Stalin at his Alwarpet residence in Chennai, Thirumavalavan said the discussion was only a courtesy meeting and mainly focused on the Assembly election results and minority votes.
“We discussed the election results and minority voting pattern. Nothing beyond that was discussed,” he said.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, which emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 Assembly seats, is seeking support from other parties to cross the majority mark required to form the government.
The Congress, which contested as part of the DMK alliance, has already extended support to the party.
However, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam still requires additional MLAs to prove majority in the Assembly.
Sources said Vijay met Governor Arlekar for the second time and was reportedly asked to submit letters of support from sufficient MLAs before being invited to form the government.
Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has also sought support from the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, CPI and CPI(M), which have representation in the Assembly. Leaders of the parties have stated that decisions would be taken only after internal
consultations.
Thirumavalavan said his party would discuss the matter democratically before arriving at a conclusion.
“We cannot take decisions based on emotions. A proper consultation will be held before taking any stand,” he said.
He also alleged that the BJP was creating political pressure in Tamil Nadu and claimed that the Governor was exerting pressure after the Congress extended support to Vijay.
