TN CM files nomination from Kolathur constituency in Chennai

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin filed his nomination today to contest from Kolathur for the 4th consecutive time.
The election dates for 5 states – Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, West Bengal and Assam – were recently announced.
The elections will be held in 3 phases. The 17th assembly elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu.
The ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu is set to end its term on May 10. Following this, the Election Commission of India announced the date of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections on the evening of March 15 to pave the way for the formation of a new government.
Accordingly, the filing of nominations will begin on March 30 and voting will be held in a single phase for all 234 constituencies on April 23.
This time in Tamil Nadu, there is a five-way contest. In this situation, political parties are actively carrying out election work by fielding candidates. Due to this, the political arena of Tamil Nadu has started to heat up.
In this hectic environment, the filing of nominations has begun today. The filing of nominations for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections will begin from March 30, 2026 and will continue till April 6 (excluding government holidays).
Nominations will be received from 11 am to 3 pm. The scrutiny of petitions will take place on April 7, and the last day for withdrawal is April 9.
The final list of candidates will be released that evening. Following this, the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
There are a total of 8 days to file nominations, and since 4 of those days are public holidays, there are only 4 days left to file nominations.
While the nominations start today, there are 4 holidays namely March 31, April 1, 3, 5.
Thus, there are only 4 days left to file nominations, namely March 30, April 2, 4 and 6. Candidates can file their petitions at the offices of the divisional or taluka offices of their constituencies from 11 am to 3 pm.
Only four people will be allowed to accompany the candidate to file the petition. Also, only three vehicles are allowed to park within a hundred meters of the office. Candidates are also required to pay a deposit of Rs. 10,000 for the general category and Rs. 5,000 for the scheduled caste and tribal categories in cash.
Cheques or bank drafts will not be accepted and all candidates are advised to strictly follow the election rules.
Following this, the process of filing nominations has begun across the state. As the election campaign in Tamil Nadu heats up, all parties have announced their candidates.
Accordingly, DMK has 164 candidates, alliance parties are contesting in 70 constituencies, and alliance parties are contesting in 11 constituencies out of 70 in Udayasooriyan symbol. The DMK election manifesto was released yesterday (March 29).
In this situation, as the nomination period began today (March 30), Chief Minister M.K. Stalin filed his nomination from the Kolathur constituency.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who has already contested and won from the Kolathur constituency three times, is contesting for the fourth consecutive time.
