Delhi Police have arrested a key Lashkar-e-Taiba operative, Shabir Ahmed Lone, for allegedly plotting sabotage activities across the country, officials said.
The arrest follows investigations intensified after the November 10 car blast in Delhi and incidents involving anti-national posters at a metro station.
During the probe, Special Cell officials traced two suspects from Kolkata, Umar Farooq and Robil-ul-Islam, who were later arrested.
Their interrogation led police to Lone, who was allegedly planning attacks on a temple near the Red Fort and other prominent religious sites in major cities. Lone, earlier arrested in 2007 in a conspiracy case, is believed to have fled to Bangladesh in 2019 and later established links with Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Police said Lone also coordinated activities in Tamil Nadu, where six persons linked to his network were arrested in Tiruppur on February 21 for anti-national activities.
After a 40-day search, Lone was arrested in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary investigation indicates possible links with Pakistan’s ISI. Further investigation is underway.
